First Aid Kit

First Aid Kit has finished recording their latest album, The Lion’s Roar, and it was just released in the States.  Three of the tracks can be listened to below, and they have already released two videos for songs on the album.  Enjoy.

First Aid Kit is an indie folk duo from Stockholm, Sweden.  Also,  they are sisters.  Also, they are adorable.  Also, they have voices that are unfairly beautiful.  Like many, they first came to my attention when I saw a video of them covering the Fleet Foxes’ “Tiger Mountain Peasant Song”.  Needless to say (but I’m saying it anyway) I was blown away.  The video was just the two sisters, Johanna and Klara, sitting comfortably close in the woods, singing a rendition of the song that would make the birds quiet down for a bit and just enjoy(see below).  Their album the Big Black and the Blue, is an impressive collection of folk songs showcasing the talent these girls have for both writing beautiful stories and composing gorgeous vocal harmonies.  My favorite songs from the album include “Hard Believer”, which has an incredible chorus that I listened to at a much louder volume than I typically listen to folk music, “Ghost Town” starts out so sparse and spacious and ends up being such a powerful track.  Also, “I Met Up With A King” is another example of incredible storytelling coupled with sweet vocals to create an very impressive track.  I’ve also included some of my favorites from their other album and assorted goodies. Also they have a great Daytrotter session, so be sure to pick that up.
