Bon Iver – Bon Iver

Click for download.

The new Bon Iver self-titled album has leaked.  I’m currently listening to it.  It is wonderfully rich.  I can’t get enough his damn falsetto, and neither can the rest of the good-music-loving world because his debut album was easily one of the most impressive debut’s in recent memory.  So far (I’m on track 3 at this point)  it’s everything I expected a sophomore project to be.  Its refreshing, familiar, and more refined.  While, I did enjoy the grittyness of For Emma, Forever Ago, this polished sound is very pleasing, and does not leave much to be desired.  One thing I’ve always enjoyed about the first album, was the cohesiveness of the entire thing.  How it seemed to be different pieces of a story, that didn’t necessarily fit together, but felt as if they were all taken from the same book.  This album follows in that way, all of the songs represent a place, according to Justin Vernon, the man behind the gentle madness.  Glad to see the big OH represented on this album on the track “Lisbon, OH”(track 9).  I can’t offer too much direction on what to listen to with this album.  Its not extremely catchy, but we didn’t come here looking for power-pop dance jamzz? So it can only be what it is. And what it is, is an enchanting collection of songs, recorded in a old veterinary clinic, waiting to be heard and enjoyed by all willing to give it 45 minutes.
